April 9, 2021

Dear Members of the Parkman Community,

On April 8, 2021, the Enfield Public Schools was notified that a member of our school community has tested positive for coronavirus (COVID-19). The affected person has been instructed to remain home in self-isolation for 10 days and has been provided with additional instructions to follow prior to returning to school. Family members have also been instructed to self-quarantine and get tested.

The last day this person was in Parkman School was Tuesday April 6, 2021. Anyone who is considered a “close contact” with this person has been contacted or will be contacted by school or local health officials and provided with instructions on the appropriate steps to take.

COVID-19 is spread mainly via person-to-person contact through contaminated air droplets from coughing and sneezing by an infected person. As with controlling the spread of other viruses, we urge everyone to discuss the following preventive measures with your children and family members:

  • Wash your hands frequently, but especially after using the restroom and before preparing or consuming food. Using soap and hot water, wash for about 20 seconds. Be sure to also wash your fingertips. When soap and water are not available, use hand sanitizer.
  • Avoid coughing or sneezing into your hands or in the air. Always try to cough or sneeze into a tissue; then throw the tissue away. If you don’t have a tissue, cough/sneeze inside the elbow of your arm.
  • As much as you can, avoid touching your eyes, mouth, and nose.
  • Wear a face covering (mask) whenever there is a likelihood that you or your family members will be in
    the presence of others.
  • Maintain social distancing (at least 6 feet) between yourself and others when outside of your home.
Below is the list of COVID-19 symptoms for which everyone should monitor in their family members:
    • !  Fever (100.4° Fahrenheit or higher)
    • !  Chillsorshakingchills
    • !  Uncontrolled new cough (not due to other known cause, such as chronic cough)
    • !  Difficulty breathing or shortness of breath
    • !  New loss of taste or smell
For additional information on COVID-19 symptoms, please see:
      https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/symptoms-testing/symptoms.html
Staff and students exhibiting any of the above symptoms or feeling ill should remain home, call their medical provider to report their symptoms, and ask about testing prior to seeking in-person care at a clinic, physician’s office, or hospital.
For more information on what to do if you or a family member has possible symptoms, a diagnosis, or exposure to COVID-19, please see Addendum 5: Interim Guidance for Responding to COVID-19 Scenarios in Connecticut School Districts, which is available here:
      https://portal.ct.gov/SDE/COVID19/COVID-19-Resources-for-Families-and-Educators/Addendums-and-FAQs

We are closely monitoring this situation and working with The North Central District Health Department. We will provide you with updates as we know more. If you have questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Thank you - and stay well,

Good afternoon Parkman Families,

We are reaching out because we are concerned that many in-person learners have been using remote learning days for convenience and not because students are ill or need to quarantine. The purpose of this email is to clarify any misunderstandings regarding the use of remote learning days.

We ask that families who choose 4 day in person learning commit to this model for instructional consistency and planning purposes. Staying home for remote learning on scheduled "in school days" is only allowed for students who are sick or have to quarantine. Remote learning is not available to provide flexible learning schedules for students. Situations such as waking up late, missing the bus, having an appointment, or others along these lines are not adequate reasons for accessing lessons online.

If remote participation is due to illness or quarantine, please notify our school nurse (Nancy Netherwood,nnetherwood@enfieldschools.org). If your child is home because they are ill, please consider giving them the day to rest and get better, just as would happen during a normal school year.

We understand that some families may feel anxious about sending their children to school. Therefore, families can opt-out of in person learning at any time and go fully remote. We just ask that families do not switch back and forth between learning models.

Thank you for your cooperation.

Mar 25, 2021

Good afternoon Parkman Families,

This notification is important for families who drop their children off by car in the morning. To speed up the drop-off process, please make sure your child is packed and ready to exit the car by the time you approach the drop-off curb. We hope this will allow students to exit the car quickly and help us avoid traffic backup on Weymouth Road. For safety, please make sure children are exiting cars from the passenger side of the vehicle. Students can be dropped of at the parent drop-off curb between 8:25am and 8:40am (when staff are on duty). Students arriving after 8:40am must be signed in by a guardian, at the main entrance.

Thank you in advance for your support.

Hello Parkman Families and Staff,

We are excited to kick off our Cookbook and Garden bag fundraiser!! We could not have organized this fundraiser without all your help. Your recipe submissions help create this fantastic cookbook, which we will have for years to come.

To coincide with the cooking theme we have added garden bags for purchase as well. These bags have everything you need to grow herbs, flowers and fruit directly in the bag (flyer attached) !

The funds we raise through this fundraiser will allow us to purchase End of the Year tee shirts for our students.  Thank you so much for all your support!!

If you have any questions please reach out to me, Brigitte DeMaine, at EHParkmanPTO@gmail.com

Thank you,

The Parkman PTO

Hello Parkman Families,

We just wanted to share some messages from our PTO and 5th Grade Committee.

From the Parkman PTO:

I want to thank you for your submissions to our Parkman PTO Cookbook. We are still in need of recipes to complete this cookbook. If you haven't yet done so, please consider adding 1 or MORE recipes to our cookbook.

This fundraiser is going to help us purchase tee shirts for the kids at the end of the  year. We are hoping to get a minimum of 100 recipes. If we don't have that minimum, we cannot proceed with this fundraiser. As a thank you for your support we are going to raffle off a Cookbook prize basket. Your name will be entered on our prize wheel 1 time  for every 3 recipes you submit. I have extended the submission date until this Friday, March 19th.

To enter a recipe please go to Typensave.com. Enter the username, Parkman PTO and the  password, potato266. Then click on Add recipe. I will gladly take written recipes and type them in for you myself also. If you need to write a recipe out, please send it in with your student. I will collect it from them during lunch.

If you have any questions please reach out to me, Brigitte DeMaine, at EHparkmanPTO@gmail.com.

Thank you again! We appreciate all your support!

From the Parkman 5th Grade Committee:

Take the night off from cooking WEDNESDAY, MARCH 31 and dine-in, order delivery, or pick-up food from OUTBACK STEAKHOUSE in Enfield to help fundraise for the Parkman 5th Grade Class of 2021!

Outback will donate 15% of your check when you bring in this flyer --> click here for flyer, show it on your smartphone, or mention it to the takeaway person, when calling in your order. (If ordering on-line type in “Parkman 5th Grade Fundraiser” under Special Instructions.)

Mar 8, 2021

Good Afternoon Parkman Families,

We are so happy to have returned surveys for approximately 215 Parkman students. Thank you!

If you have not completed our survey yet, please Click here to access the survey.

Below you will find details about the health and safety procedures Parkman has been following this school year. These procedures were developed from CDC and CT State Department of Education guidelines. These health and safety procedures will remain in place upon students’ return to school 4 days a week. The decision of which learning model to choose is entirely up to your family – we hope that this information can help to answer frequently asked questions.

We sent the survey via email last week. If you haven't done so already, we would greatly appreciate that you complete the survey to record your learning model choice by the end of the day today, March 8th, so we can fully prepare for March 22nd. If you need additional time to complete the survey, we ask that you complete the survey as soon as possible.

Masks

  • Everyone will be required to wear masks at school.
  • Masks should completely cover the nose and mouth and fit snugly against the sides of face without gaps.
  • Mask breaks will be provided hourly.

Classroom Setup

  • Maximize social distancing between student workstations, achieving 6 feet when feasible. Desks face in the same direction (rather than facing each other).
  • Where necessary, assess other space that may be repurposed for instruction.
  • Maximize space between the teacher and students due to the risk of increased droplets from teachers during instruction.
  • Floor markings have been installed to illustrate social/physical distancing.
  • Use outdoor instruction where health and safety conditions and physical space allow.
  • Students have access to washing and sanitizing stations and are asked to wash/sanitizer before and after leaving each room in the building.
  • Number of students returning on March 22nd will vary from classroom to classroom.

Hallways/ Passing

  • Floors are marked to support social/physical distancing.
  • Schedules allow for staggered passing in the hallway.

Bathrooms

  • Each wing has an assigned bathroom and each classroom has scheduled bathroom breaks throughout the day so only one classroom is accessing the bathrooms at a time.

Lunchtime

  • Maximize social distancing between student lunch stations, achieving 6 feet when feasible. Desks face in the same direction (rather than facing each other).
  • During cold weather, classrooms with larger numbers of students will assign lunchtime spots within the classroom to maximize social distancing.
  • During warm weather, students will eat lunch outside.

Buses

  • Students in grades K-5 will be assigned seats
  • Siblings can sit together
  • Students cannot change seats once they have been seated
  • Arrive at the school AM - Riders will disembark from the front of the bus to the back and should not touch any seats while getting off of the bus
  • Bus Drivers will disinfect the bus before the afternoon pickup
  • PM Run – repeat the same steps above
  • Wednesdays, buses will be all thoroughly disinfected

Instruction Model Options (beginning March 22nd)

  • 4 day in person learning (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday)
  • Full remote (5 days a week)

Important things to consider

  • Wednesdays will remain asynchronous (remote) for all students.
  • Students whose family choose the 4-day learning model will be expected to come to school every day but Wednesday. Remote learning days are not available to provide flexible learning schedules for students. Remote learning on in-person days is only acceptable for students who are sick or need to quarantine.
  • Students may switch to full remote at any time.
  • Families cannot switch back and forth between learning models.
  • Hybrid (2 days in-person) will not be an option beginning March 22nd.

ERFC (Before and after school care)

  • ERFC will remain at the Enfield Annex for the remainder of the school year.

Please contact ERFC (860) 253-9935 or visit https://erfcinc.org/ for more information.

Thank you in advance for taking the time to complete our survey.

Similar to APP updates on your phones, the APPs we use for distance learning also require occasional updates. If you are not using the most #UpToDate versions of certain APPs, it can (on occasion) cause an issue with completing, or submitting, some schoolwork/assignments. *It's a good idea to check for updates regularly.

Parkman PTO Wreaths Across America Partnership

On Saturday, December 18, 2021 at 12:00 PM, Parkman PTO (CT0107P) will be helping St. Patrick's Cemetery to Remember and Honor our veterans by laying Remembrance wreaths on the graves of our country's fallen heroes.  Each wreath is only $15.00 - and $5.00 of that remains with the Parkman PTO. Thank you for supporting the Parkman PTO (CT0107P) and Wreaths Across America!
